Pajama Day!

Reminder:  
Pajama Day is Monday, December 19th for the 4-year-old class and Tuesday December 20th for the 3-year-old and PreK classes! 

Students may wear their pajamas to school and bring a blanket/stuffed animal/slippers if they like! :) 

Christmas Time is Here!

Reminders of upcoming Christmas activities:

 --> The Preschool Christmas Program is Thursday evening, December 15th at 6:00pm.  Please remember to return the sheets to school if you are able to help provide refreshments following the program.

-->  The class Christmas parties will be:
4s - Wed. Dec. 21st  10:30-11:30
3s - Thurs. Dec. 22nd 10:00-11:00
PreK - Thurs. Dec. 22nd 1:00-2:00  (1-hr. early dismissal)
Parents are welcome to attend these parties!  Room mothers will be sending information about the gift exchange.  In the past, we've exchanged books or other small gifts, girls bringing a girl gift and boys bringing a boy gift.

Christmas Bulletin Boards

A is for Advent :)

The season of Advent is here.  It is a season of waiting for Christmas.  We look forward to celebrating Christmas, when God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be the Savior of the world!  We have been having a lot of fun learning about Christmas, practicing Christmas songs for our upcoming program, and doing some Christmas activities.  Here the students worked on making Advent wreaths and Christmas wreaths:

Center Time

Here are some pictures from center time the past couple of weeks.  :)  During center time, students may choose their activities.  We have an art center, a dramatic play center (aka "kitchen area"), a music center, table games/manipulatives center, book center, water/sand center, block center, and puppet center, and more.  Some materials are always available for students to choose.  Others rotate in and out while others relate to our current unit.  Center time is also used to work more one-on-one with students to complete different projects. 

Four Seasons

The students have enjoyed learning about the four seasons we experience each year.

Boggle Jr.

Students have enjoyed a new game called Boggle Jr. that was donated to our classroom.  Students use lettered cubes to find the right letters to spell out the words found on the picture cards.  There is a timer so they can challenge themselves to do it quickly.  But really it's fun (and great practice!) just finding the right letters, matching them up, and then practicing writing the words too! 

Fire Safety

We had the opportunity to welcome some of the local fire fighters to our classroom to review some fire safety.  Remember to regularly check the smoke detectors in your home and have a meeting place planned with your family if there is ever a fire in your home!  We had fun practicing Stop! Drop! and Roll!  as well as crawling under "smoke."  :)  Thank you, fire fighters for the visit and for all the work you do to keep us safe! 

Harvest Parties :)

Thank you to the parents who helped out with the Harvest Parties!  The students had a blast with their costumes and special activities and treats!

One mom carved this neat pumpkin for us and taught us a prayer to God that we can remember when we carve pumpkins: 
Dear God,
As I carve my pumpkin help me say this prayer:

Open my mind so I can learn about You;
(Cut the top of the pumpkin)

Take away all my sin and forgive me for the wrong things I do.
(Clean out the inside)

Open my eyes so Your love I will see;
(Cut the eyes out in heart shapes)

I'm so sorry for turning up my nose to all you've given me.
(Cut a nose in the shape of a cross)

Open my ears so your word I will hear.
(Cut the ears shaped like the Bible)-we did rectangles

Open my mouth so I can tell others You're near
(cut the mouth in the shape of a fish)

Courageous Daniel

This week, our Bible lesson was about Daniel.  You can read about Daniel in the Bible in Daniel 6.  It was a good week (Red Ribbon week) to learn about Daniel as he is an awesome example of standing up for what is right and not giving in and doing the wrong thing.  The students enjoyed acting out the lesson and made lion masks this week to use as props. 

Red Ribbon Week - Say "No!" to Drugs!

This past week, the Trinity Lutheran School student council put together some fun themed days and special afternoon activities for the students as part of "Red Ribbon Week."  The PreK students got to join the rest of the school for a couple afternoons of relay games.  They had a blast!  They also loved wearing their "shades" to school and wearing crazy hair one day too! :) 

On crazy hair day, the older students of the school also had the opportunity to paint two of Boone's snowplows.  The PreK students went to check out the artwork on the plows!

Fire Station Visit

The students had a great time visiting the Boone Fire Station and learned a lot from the helpful fire fighters who gave us a tour.  A highlight for each group was getting to see a fire fighter slide down the brass pole at the station!  Next month, we will also have visits in our classroom from some fire fighters who will talk to us more about fire safety. 

"O" for Odd Octopus

Last week, we enjoyed learning about letter O and in the two older classes, each child made an octopus using O cereal and an O from a paper plate.  Students were encouraged to practice making patterns on the octopus' 8 tentacles.  

We also watched this video (link below) about this "odd octopus" called the mimic octopus.  What a strange and wonderful creature the Lord created!

Wheels Day!

The students really enjoyed bringing their wheels to school!  They made use of their community buildings they had created and had a great time taking their bikes into the shop to be fixed too! :)
